The Federal Government, with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and UN Women, has launched the Nigeria Gender Profile and Roadmap to Equality 2030 to address gender disparities in the country.
The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said the document provides an evidence-based assessment of gender equality in Nigeria and outlines practical steps toward achieving national targets by 2030.
She described gender equality as a key investment in national development, noting that equal access to education, finance, leadership, and security would strengthen families and boost the economy.
The AfDB said closing gender gaps could increase Nigeria’s GDP by 2 to 3 percent annually, calling gender equality an economic necessity rather than just a social goal.
UN Women added that the roadmap is a shared responsibility across government, private sector, and civil society, stressing that implementation will be critical to achieving results.
