Fubara Withdraws from Rivers APC Guber Primaries, Cites Peace

By Sofiat Adenekan-Abdul

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has officially withdrawn from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the decision was taken in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state ahead of the forthcoming election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fubara described the move as a difficult but necessary sacrifice following what he called extensive consultations with family members, political allies, and close associates.

“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” the governor stated.

Fubara acknowledged that his withdrawal may come as a disappointment to many of his supporters who had invested heavily in his political aspiration.

“I understand the disappointment, the anger, and the pain many of you may feel. Much has indeed been invested and much sacrificed along the way,” he said.

The governor also broke his silence over recent political developments in the state, noting that his restraint was intentional and guided by wisdom and a commitment to maintaining peace.

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose,” he added.

Fubara expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as their support and encouragement throughout the political process.

He further urged his supporters and party faithful to remain steadfast and committed to the APC, stressing the need for unity and continued development in Rivers State.

“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” the governor declared.

Despite withdrawing from the primaries, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Rivers State for the remainder of his tenure, pledging to continue prioritizing governance and development across the state.
