FUET Warns Staff Against Sex-for-Grades

By Victor Agboola

The Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Koroma/Saakpenwa, Rivers State has warned staff against exploiting students, saying extortion and sex-for-grades will not be allowed.

The Pro-Chancellor, Prof Don Baridam, gave the warning during the university’s first matriculation and founders’ day lecture.

He said FUET, as a new federal university, must protect its image and academic standards.

Any lecturer or non-teaching staff found guilty of extortion, selling handouts, or demanding sexual favours, he said, would be dismissed.
He also urged the staff to treat students as their own children and guide them properly.

He said a total of number of 1,246 students were matriculated and academic activities have started in six faculties, including Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Agriculture.

He warned students against cultism, exam malpractice, sexual harassment, drug abuse, and indecent dressing, saying offenders would be expelled.

He added that students must meet at least 75% class attendance to sit for examinations.
