A socio-political group, Reality Organisation, has condemned the Abia State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its threat to sanction Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for alleged anti-party activities, warning that the move could deepen divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group, in a statement signed by its representative, Dimgba Okereke, on Tuesday, described the allegation against Kalu as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate a prominent APC leader.
Reality Organisation was reacting to a communiqué issued by the Abia APC State Working Committee, which criticised comments attributed to Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwonta and demanded public apologies over alleged anti-party conduct.
The group argued that Kalu did not endorse Governor Alex Otti or the Labour Party during the television interview cited by the APC leadership.
According to the organisation, Kalu was asked whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election and answered in the affirmative. He was also asked whether Governor Otti would win the Abia governorship election and gave a similar response.
However, when asked whether the APC had an alliance with Governor Otti, Kalu reportedly answered no.
Reality Organisation therefore questioned the basis for describing the senator’s comments as an endorsement, arguing that political prediction should not be equated with support for a candidate.
“Where, therefore, is the endorsement? Is a prediction now synonymous with an endorsement? Has political analysis suddenly become anti-party activity?” the group asked.
It maintained that Kalu’s comments represented a political assessment rather than a declaration of support for the Labour Party or Governor Otti.
The group urged the Abia APC leadership to use Kalu’s prediction as an opportunity for introspection instead of threatening disciplinary action.
It said the party should examine the political circumstances behind the prediction and take steps to strengthen its structures, reconcile aggrieved members and improve its chances in the 2027 governorship election.
Reality Organisation also accused the state APC leadership of applying what it described as double standards to political actors, alleging that similar comments concerning Kalu in the past did not attract comparable condemnation.
