Gunmen Kill Eight in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

The scale of insecurity across the country does not seem to be abating as at least eight people have been killed following a late-night attack by gunmen on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Reports say the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Thursday when the assailants stormed the area and opened fire on residents. A majority of the victims were reportedly from the same family. Several others sustained injuries, while some individuals remain unaccounted for.

The Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, Kefas Mallai, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the attackers operated for hours without interruption.

According to him, the lack of immediate security response has sparked anger among residents, some of whom are considering protests over what they described as inadequate protection.

“The attackers invaded the village late at night and shot indiscriminately. Eight deaths have been confirmed so far, with others injured and some still missing,” he said, adding that no security personnel were seen until after the attackers had left.

Mallai also alleged that security forces were stationed in another nearby community, which some locals suspect may be linked to the attackers.

Similarly, a youth leader in Bokkos, Christopher Luka, described the incident as devastating, noting that the victims were largely from a single family. He confirmed the casualty figure and said several others were critically injured.
