Hardship Should Not Break Homes — Rep Urges Nigerians

A member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has cautioned Nigerians against allowing the country’s current economic hardship to destroy their marriages, warning that financial pressure is increasingly putting families under strain.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Abejide who is the Chairman House committee on Customs said while many citizens are grappling with rising living costs, couples must remain committed to the core values of love, understanding and faith.

“Don’t allow hunger and hardship to take away your marriage. Let God be your foundation. When you have God, things will fall into place,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that despite widespread complaints about economic challenges, signs of spending and investment remain visible across the country, suggesting that the situation, though difficult, should not be allowed to break family units.

“You see people building houses, estates springing up, people buying vehicles and travelling abroad. So we must not allow temporary hardship to destroy our homes,” he added.

Abejide spoke at a thanksgiving service in Abuja to mark the 50th birthday of his wife, Esther Modupe Abejide, and their 20th wedding anniversary.

Also speaking, the Senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory, urging citizens to remain patient with ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the country is transitioning into a more structured and sustainable economic system, adding that current challenges are part of a broader reform process.

“There is hope. We are moving in the right direction. It’s not been easy, but the economy is getting better,” he said.

Karimi also dismissed opposition criticism, describing it as lacking in fresh ideas, while calling for continued public support for the administration’s policies.

The event attracted political associates, family members and well-wishers, and featured the donation of an 18-seater bus to the church.
