The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, recently briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the
agency’s ongoing reforms and its proposed 2026 programmes and activities conceived to strengthen national unity, civic responsibility and value re-orientation across the country.
The engagement, which underscored the strategic importance of national orientation in governance and nation building, provided Issa-Onilu with the opportunity to present an extensive update on interventions and institutional reforms undertaken by the agency since the commencement of the current administration.
A statement by the Director, Communication and Media, Mr Bala Musa, said during the meeting, Issa-Onilu highlighted the progress made thus far in repositioning the agency
to better respond to contemporary national challenges through citizen engagement, behavioural change campaigns and grassroots mobilisation programmes designed to strengthen patriotism and social cohesion among Nigerians.
Musa said Issa-Onilu explained that since October 2023, activities and programmes of the agency have been deliberately aligned with President Tinubu’s vision to restore shared national values and rebuild public confidence in federal government’s institutions.
According to him, Issa-Onilu told the president that the modest but impactful achievements recorded within the period were spurred by the president’s policy direction, support, and sustained commitment to strengthening institutions responsible for national reorientation.
Central to the discussions, the statement
Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, DG, NOA at the meeting with President Tinubu
said, was the recognition that national orientation remains a critical pillar
in achieving effective governance outcomes, particularly at a time when the federal government seeks greater public participation in policy implementation and national development efforts.
It also said beyond reviewing
the agency’s reform journey, the director-general presented proposed programmes and projects for the 2026 operational year, many of which he
said were designed to expand public sensitisation campaigns, deepen citizen engagement initiatives and strengthen implementation of the National Values Charter across communities nationwide.
According to Musa, Issa-Onilu informed
President Tinubu that the proposed agenda was designed not only to consolidate
on the agency’s existing achievements,
but also to introduce more innovative
and far reaching approaches to public communication, value advocacy and
civic education and simultaneously strengthening NOA’s grassroots presence and deepening citizens’ understanding of government policies, national priorities and civic responsibilities.
In line with due process and institutional coordination, the statement added that NOA’s helmsman sought presidential guidance and approval to ensure that the proposed 2026 initiatives align fully with the broader objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda and receive the necessary support for effective implementation.
