The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, have called on Nigerian Christians to sustain prayers for the nation and embrace unity as they celebrate Easter.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas emphasised the need for continued intercession for Nigeria and the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that prayers have historically attracted divine intervention in addressing national challenges.
He described Easter as a season that reflects sacrifice, selflessness, obedience, and love—virtues he said are critical to fostering peace and stability in the country. Abbas urged Christians to emulate the teachings of Jesus Christ and extend those values to nation-building efforts.
The Speaker also highlighted the significance of the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent in 2026, describing it as a divine opportunity to strengthen unity and mutual understanding between Muslims and Christians.
Similarly, Deputy Speaker Kalu called on Nigerians to embrace unity, hope, and a shared sense of humanity, describing Easter as a powerful symbol of sacrifice, renewal, and the triumph of hope over despair.
He urged citizens to reflect on the enduring values represented by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, while encouraging continued prayers for the nation and the Tinubu administration, expressing optimism that Nigeria will overcome its socio-economic challenges.
Kalu stressed the need for Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divisions in pursuit of peace, unity, and sustainable national development.
“Easter speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the boundless power of hope. It calls on us to love one another, stand united, and uphold our shared humanity, especially in difficult times,” he said.
He further urged leaders at all levels to prioritise inclusive policies that promote fairness and improve citizens’ welfare, noting that true leadership must be anchored on compassion and service.
The Deputy Speaker also encouraged Nigerians to extend kindness to the less privileged, emphasising that collective acts of compassion can help build a more caring and cohesive society.
Both lawmakers wished Christians a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration, while urging all Nigerians to work together towards national unity, progress, and stability.
