The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the newly completed headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States in Abuja as a powerful symbol of unity, diplomacy, and regional advancement.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony—through the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariam Mahmoud—Wike said the landmark project goes beyond physical infrastructure, representing a shared commitment among West African nations to deepen cooperation and build stronger institutions.
“This is not just a building; it reflects our collective resolve to shape a more integrated and prosperous future,” he stated.
Wike commended the China for its support in delivering the project, noting that the gesture underscores growing international collaboration and reinforces efforts toward regional integration.
He further highlighted Abuja’s strategic role as Nigeria’s diplomatic hub, stressing that hosting the ECOWAS headquarters enhances the city’s standing as a centre for dialogue, policy coordination, and multilateral engagement.
The new facility is expected to boost the operational capacity of ECOWAS, fostering closer collaboration among member states and advancing initiatives aimed at economic growth, peace, and stability across West Africa.
Reaffirming the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s commitment, Wike pledged continued support for initiatives that promote regional unity, institutional strength, and sustainable development.
