The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as deputy governor following his screening at plenary on Monday .

The confirmation came after lawmakers adopted the report of an ad hoc committee during a session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore.

Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello said the nomination followed the resignation of former deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo.

He explained that the process complied with constitutional provisions guiding the replacement of a deputy governor.

According to the committee, Garo underwent a detailed screening process, including questions on his background, experience, and plans for governance. His credentials were also verified.

The committee stated that the nominee demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office and presented a workable vision to support the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf.

Following the presentation, the House unanimously approved the nomination.

“The nominee demonstrated capacity and readiness to support governance in the state,” the committee noted.

The confirmation fills the vacancy in the state’s executive arm and is expected to support ongoing governance and policy implementation.

In a statement, the Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam, confirmed the development, saying:

“The Kano State House of Assembly has screened and approved Murtala Garo as Deputy Governor as requested by the governor.”
