Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over an unauthorised credit alert into one of his private bank accounts, questioning how his confidential banking details were obtained.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku says the transfer came from an unknown individual with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”
The statement said neither Atiku nor his campaign team solicited, approved or had prior knowledge of the payment.
“Neither His Excellency nor his campaign solicited, authorised or has any knowledge of the individual or entity behind the unauthorised payment.”
Atiku described the development as troubling, saying the account involved is a private account whose details are not publicly available.
“How did unknown persons obtain the confidential banking details of a private citizen?”
The former Vice President warned that the incident raises wider concerns about financial privacy and data protection, saying the exposure of confidential banking information could put citizens at risk.
He urged security agencies and the public to take note of the development, describing it as part of what he called a pattern of suspicious activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown, then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe.”
Atiku also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he described as attempts at character assassination, insisting that he remained focused on providing solutions to the country’s challenges.
