The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old woman, Happiness Clifford, for alleged gun-running and recovered 10 live cartridges in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
The police also intercepted a vehicle carrying beverages suspected to be adulterated and uncovered a warehouse containing similar products in Warri.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
According to Edafe, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Ubulu-Uku, arrested Clifford after receiving credible intelligence about suspected gun-running activities in Agbor.
Police searched the suspect’s hideout and recovered 10 live cartridges concealed inside a bucket.
Edafe said preliminary investigations indicated that Clifford allegedly identified her husband, Clifford Okoro, as a major supplier of the ammunition.
“Investigation is ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend him,” he said.
Police Intercept Suspected Adulterated Drinks
In a separate operation, SAKU operatives in Warri intercepted a Toyota Sienna carrying quantities of “Gbefun Hot Drink”, which they suspected to be adulterated.
The police stopped the vehicle along the Warri-Agbarho Expressway on August 17 and arrested its 44-year-old driver.
Further investigation led officers to a warehouse at Lower Ginuwa, Warri, where they recovered additional quantities of the suspected adulterated drink, other beverages and a Suzuki Shuttle bus loaded with similar products.
The suspected operators of the warehouse fled after sighting the police.
Edafe said efforts were ongoing to arrest them and determine the source and distribution network of the products.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for the arrests and recoveries.
He directed the operatives to conduct thorough investigations and arrest all suspects linked to the cases.
Oyeniyi also urged residents to provide the police with credible and timely information that could help prevent crime and apprehend suspected criminals.
