Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Carter Efe, has been permanently banned from TikTok over repeated violations of the platform’s community guidelines.
TikTok announced the ban on Wednesday, effectively cutting off the comedian from the platform where he built a large follower through comedy skits, music promotion and livestreams.
Carter Efe rose to prominence through comedy content on TikTok before expanding his activities into livestreaming and music.
The ban means he can no longer access or use the affected account unless TikTok overturns the decision through its applicable appeal process.
The loss of the account has triggered reactions across social media, with fans expressing shock over the disappearance of a page with millions of followers.
Several users and commentators on X, formerly known as Twitter, raised concerns about the restrictions imposed by major social media platforms and the potential loss of years of audience growth when creators lose access to their accounts.
For content creators who depend heavily on platforms such as TikTok, the incident has renewed concerns about platform dependency and the risks associated with building an audience entirely on third-party applications.
