By Sulyman Gobir

The Federal Government has commended South-East governors for supporting infrastructure and other development projects under the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Minister of Works David Umahi gave the commendation on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a report on a nationwide project tour by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Umahi said the administration was committed to ensuring that communities across the country benefit from ongoing infrastructure projects.

He said the projects were addressing critical road and transportation needs while improving connectivity and the movement of people and goods.

The minister also highlighted the Federal Government’s growing use of concrete pavement technology on selected roads.

He said the technology could offer greater strength and durability, particularly on roads facing heavy traffic and other demanding conditions.

Umahi said the government would continue to engage stakeholders and local communities to ensure that infrastructure projects deliver lasting benefits.

Umahi urges peaceful political engagement

The minister also appealed to political supporters, particularly in the South-East, to avoid verbal attacks against Nigerians who hold different political views.

He specifically urged supporters of the Labour Party and Peter Obi to respect those supporting the All Progressives Congress and President Tinubu.

Presenting the project tour report, NANS President Afeez Akinteye commended the Federal Government’s infrastructure interventions across the country.

Akinteye said NANS teams visited several states in the North-West to assess ongoing projects and their impact on communities and students.

He said improved road infrastructure was making it easier for students and other residents to access educational institutions and public facilities.

Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement, including Tanko Yakassai, Abdulhameed Abba, Abiodun Etimi and Moremi Ojudu, also expressed support for the administration’s infrastructure initiatives.

Student leaders at the event similarly acknowledged federal infrastructure projects they said were improving mobility and conditions for students.
