FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to extending infrastructure and public services to rural and satellite communities across the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike made the commitment in his 2026 Independence Day message to FCT residents as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary.
The Minister said the FCT Administration was working to build a modern and inclusive capital where residents across the territory could benefit from improved infrastructure and public services.
He disclosed that the administration had invested in road construction, drainage and solar lighting, while expanding transportation infrastructure to improve connectivity between the city centre and outlying communities.
Wike explained that the ultramodern bus terminals had been constructed in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, with plans to extend similar facilities to Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada.
He also highlighted efforts to improve healthcare and education across the six area councils, saying the administration was equipping schools and revitalising primary healthcare centres to improve access to essential services.
On security, Wike said the FCT Administration was working with security agencies to strengthen surveillance, community policing and the use of technology to protect residents and visitors.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, support development initiatives and protect public infrastructure from vandalism, while keeping their communities clean and orderly.
Wike also urged residents to participate in the 2027 general election and support leaders capable of sustaining development in the territory.
The Minister expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future and called for continued unity, tolerance and collective efforts to build an FCT that serves as a model of development.
