Wike: FCT Hits 60% of 2026 Capital Budget

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has achieved 60 percent implementation of its 2026 capital budget despite delays in the release of funds, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said.

Wike disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing journalists after inspecting five ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

The minister said the administration was implementing the 2026 budget as approved and remained focused on completing critical projects despite the late release of funds.

“We are implementing the budget strictly and we are happy with the work we are doing. At least, we can say that for the 2026 budget, we have achieved 60 percent implementation despite the fact that the budget was released late,” Wike said.

The projects inspected include the Arterial Road S1 in Kaura, the C2 Collector Road in Life Camp, Jereton Mariere Street in Gudu and the Arterial Road N16 linking Gwarimpa with Karsana.

Wike said the projects were at various stages of completion, with some expected to be delivered in December, while the N16 road is targeted for completion in January 2027.

The minister also inspected ongoing renovation work at the IBB International Golf Course, saying the facility is expected to reopen and host its first tournament by November.

Wike described the pace of infrastructure development in the FCT as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to modernising the nation’s capital.

He said completing the projects before the 2027 general elections would provide residents with what he described as a “Christmas gift” from President Bola Tinubu.

On criticisms over FCT loans and infrastructure financing, Wike said attention should instead be focused on the administration’s performance and delivery of projects to residents.

He also challenged political aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections to present their records and plans to voters.
